New Faces and Friendly Conversations at Tapawera’s Wellby Talking Café

Friends meet at Wellby Talking Cafe Tapawera

It was our first really chilly Autumn morning when the flag went out to signify the Wellby happening – something like 2 degrees Celsius!

Della and Janine pulled together and had the hall set up and warmed with the urn steaming away by the time the eager attendees started rolling in.

How many chairs do we put out??  As people kept arriving, we quietly just added an extra chair here and another there. While it was great to see so many of our ‘regulars’ turn up, there was added excitement that there were at least two new people who came in to warm by the urn.  (Fresh blood!!!  Mwahahaaa) That always adds new flavour and interest to conversations, as new people are welcomed and encouraged to join other activities happening in the community.

One of the new visitors is relatively new to town, living up one of the valleys, and keen to get to know others and add life to Tapawera.  The other was a guy familiar with the Wangapeka Retreat, looking to stay in the area for a while, helping friends on their property until something else comes along.

All in all, it was a very pleasant way to spend a chilly morning.

The next Wellby Talking Cafe is on 9 June, 10 am-11:30 am at St Peter’s Church.

All welcome!
