Our Community Facilities
Community facilities play an important role in bringing people together, supporting local activities and helping our rural communities thrive.
Tapawera Connect is inviting local groups, organisations and community members to share their facility needs, projects and ideas.
Making the Most of the Spaces That Bring Us Together
From halls and sports clubs to meeting rooms and shared community spaces, these facilities are valuable assets, and we want to explore how we can make the most of them, both now and into the future.
Tapawera Connect is inviting local groups, organisations and community members to share their facility needs, projects and ideas.
Where We're At
It's no secret that Tapawera Connect and the wider community have spent several years working towards developing a new community hub in Tapawera.
Although progress on the hub has halted, the need for warm, accessible and fit-for-purpose community spaces hasn't gone away.
Rather than losing sight of what we set out to achieve, we're exploring other opportunities to improve existing spaces, meet changing needs and encourage greater collaboration between community groups.
What’s the Latest Opportunity?
Tapawera Connect previously secured $500,000 in capital funding from the Department of Internal Affairs towards the development of a new community hub.
With the original project no longer progressing, we have an opportunity to explore whether this funding could instead support improvements to existing community facilities or other projects that deliver similar benefits for our community.
It might be a bit of a long shot… But we don't want to see this potential disappear without trying to see if there’s something in it. There are facilities across our area that could benefit from investment, and we're keen to find out whether we can bring together projects and ideas that make good use of this funding.
This is an opportunity to look at what our community already has, what it needs, and what we could achieve together.
Any alternative use of the funding would need to be considered and approved by DIA, so nothing is guaranteed. But before that opportunity passes, we want to make sure we've explored what's possible.
We'd Love to Hear From You!
Are you involved with a community facility that could benefit from improvements?
Perhaps your group needs additional space, has an upgrade in mind, or manages a building that could be used by more people.
Maybe you've identified a gap in what's currently available, or have an idea for how local groups could work together to share facilities and resources.
You don't need a fully developed project or formal proposal. At this stage, we're simply keen to understand what's needed, what's possible and where there might be opportunities to work together.
