Flood risk in the Motueka Catchment: What it means for our communities

The purpose of this community workshop is to build understanding of flood risk and to identify practical ways that different parts of the community can act and adapt to ensure the whole community is safe and protected from the impacts of future flooding and severe wet weather.

Dr Emily Lane, Principal Scientist with Earth Sciences (formerly NIWA) will speak about the work her and a large team of scientists are carrying out around flood risk mapping, the impacts of flooding on communities, and adapation responses that can lead to safer and more resilient townships, farms and people into the future, even with the increasing impacts of climate change.

Along with other speakers, participants will have the chance to share their own thoughts and ideas for how communities can be preparing for future flood impacts.

This workshop will be facilitated by Heather Collins who has had considerable experience facilitating workshops for rural communities and farmers.
