Civil Defence Preparedness
The Civil Defence Preparedness project focuses on strengthening community resilience and improving how our community prepares for and responds to emergencies. This includes supporting local connections, sharing information and resources. and identifying ways the community can work together during times of disruption or natural events.
So far, we have sourced funding for critical assets such as generators, a drone, quality handheld radios, and a water filtration system for use in an emergency. We’re also grateful to be able to support events in the area, such as the Flood Risk Practical Workshop held by Motueka Catchment Collective.
Tapawera Trail Experience Project
This project explores opportunities to strengthen connections and opportunities for Tapawera and the Great Taste Trail. This aims to create more opportunities for locals, visitors, and local businesses to benefit from the trail. The project has the potential to support community activity, tourism, the local economy, and improved facilities for people using cycle trails and active transport routes.
Projects include supporting the installation of the Locky Docks in Tapawera, supplying cycle repair gear and workshop support for Bike Tapawera, and considering signage along the track to guide people towards activities or services in and around Tapawera.
School Pool Access
The School Pool project focuses on supporting the long-term sustainability and accessibility of the local school pool as an important community asset. The pool provides opportunities for recreation, water confidence, learning, and community connection - particularly during the summer months. Local Business Support
The Local Business Support project focuses on strengthening connections between local businesses, community initiatives and the wider community. This includes creating opportunities to promote local businesses, encourage collaboration, support local economic resilience, and celebrate the people and services that help our community thrive.
An example of this in action is the recent Photography Competition that turned Pizza Plus into an art gallery with photographs from all around the area. It activated the space and celebrated local businesses and artists.
Social Enterprise Development
The Social Enterprise Development project focuses on exploring sustainable income opportunities that support the long-term future of Tapawera Connect, while also creating positive outcomes for the wider community. The aim is to investigate small-scale, community-aligned initiatives that strengthen resilience, connection, local skills, and economic sustainability without losing sight of Tapawera Connect’s purpose or values.
This could include opportunities connected to workshops, community activations, local promotion, visitor engagement, skill sharing, communications support, or other ideas that naturally align with the work Tapawera Connect is already doing within the community.
