Mako Magic: A Night to Remember!
The Rangatahi Explorers had a fantastic start to Term 3 with an exciting trip to Trafalgar Park to watch the Tasman Mako take on North Harbour. It was a thrilling match from start to finish, with Tasman Mako claiming a narrow 31 – 29 victory.
Despite the chilly weather and fresh snow on the surrounding hills, excitement was high as 25 enthusiastic young people headed off after school for the game.
A huge thank you to the Tasman Mako for generously providing Mako T-shirts for the group. The shirts were a real hit and helped make the experience feel even more special for our rangatahi, who were very proud to be kitted out and ready to support the team.
With a yummy dinner at Burger Fuel first, they were ready when the gates opened just after 6 pm.
It was an exciting rugby match, and the Makos put on a great show for their fans. The players were super friendly and very obliging after the game, posing for pictures with members of the youth group.
Experiences like this can make a real difference for our local youth. Living in a rural community means that the cost and distance involved in attending events can often be barriers for families. Outings like this give our rangatahi the chance to enjoy new experiences, build friendships, connect with others, and stay engaged with things happening in the wider community.
A huge thank you goes to the Rata Foundation for making this trip possible. Your support allows our local youth to enjoy experiences they may not otherwise have access to, and it is incredibly rewarding to see them thrive.
We would also like to sincerely thank Josie for all the work she put into organising the trip, and Jaimee for generously volunteering her time to help with transport. Having strong community role models who are willing to step up, give their time, and support our young people helps build a stronger, more connected community.
